Top start of the Greenland 2023 expedition: Climate reality and resilience!

TSE is supporting four adventurers in their project to cross Greenland in snowkiting. After years of preparation, the sports team is more than ready!

In fact, while waiting for the departure, our adventurers carried out physical training based on strength training, skiing and hiking. In addition, in order to immerse themselves in the extreme cold conditions, they carried out two conditionings in Quebec with all of their equipment, which contains solar panel equipment to allow the electrical supply necessary for the team's communication, navigation and reporting devices, all provided by TSE.

The expedition started this Tuesday, April 18 and will end on May 20, 2023. Charles Mony, Laura Mony and Gregory Lepez will cross the Greenlandic ice sheet from south to north, from Kangerlussuaq to Qaanaaq. They will cover a total of nearly 1,700 kilometers in snowkiting and skiing and will be confronted with reliefs sometimes reaching over 2,000 meters in altitude.

“The first time, we faced temperatures of up to -25/-30°C. Despite good preparation, it was quite complicated. The second we were better prepared, we adapted compared to the first time we plunged into the unknown. In addition, technologies have also evolved a bit, which has allowed us to better understand the cold. ” Greg explains to us.

Beyond the extreme performance challenge that this expedition represents, above all, it has an educational objective. As part of the mission of Global and Environmental Citizenship Education (ECME), Village Monde, the association of our athletes, wishes to encourage the general public, and more particularly young people, to become aware of the issues related to the melting of the ice sheet and to climate change.

TSE shares many common values with the Village Monde crew, such as surpassing oneself, team spirit, determination and interest in environmental issues.

We wish these athletes good luck in their crazy adventure in Greenland!
