TSE will supply bioMérieux with carbon-free electricity

TSE, producer and developer of solar energy in France and bioMérieux, a global player in the field of diagnostics In vitro announce the signing of a power purchase contract, a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) for approximately 21.3 MWp of solar energy over a period of 20 years.

A partnership with multiple benefits

This contract is based on the purchase of electricity produced by two TSE solar power plants:

  • A ground power plant located in the Ardennes with a capacity of nearly 18.4 MWp, commissioned in spring 2024.
  • The agricultural canopy of Brouchy in the Somme, which extends over 3 hectares, for 2.9 MWc. This innovative agrivoltaic solution, developed by TSE, will be commissioned and inaugurated in summer 2023.

The contract, with a total capacity of 21.3 MWc, will allow an annual production of around 23.5 GWh, i.e. the equivalent of the consumption of a city of 11,000 inhabitants.

This operation has a twofold objective: to reduce bioMérieux's carbon footprint and to secure part of its electricity supply for 20 years by benefiting from the production of carbon-free energy.

As part of its CSR strategy, bioMérieux is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its scopes 1 and 2 by 50% in absolute terms between 2019 and 2030. This trajectory has been validated by SBTi (Science Based Target initiative).

A CPPA that is integrated into the TSE offer for businesses

For several months, companies have been implementing major initiatives: reducing energy consumption, controlling the costs associated with their energy consumption, production and consumption of green and local energy, green mobility etc...

In this context, TSE has developed a comprehensive offer for companies that want to decarbonize their activities and secure their energy supply in the long term. Thus, in addition to the development of ground power plant projects, TSE proposes the development of parking canopies and photovoltaic roofs on their land to supply them with green and local electricity. via self-consumption or intragroup CPPA.

“We are very happy to announce the signing of our first CPPA and we thank bioMérieux for its trust. Through this new operation, TSE demonstrates its position as a key player both in the development of solar energy and in the direct supply of green electricity. Through our offer to businesses, we are proud to meet the challenges of large French companies.” specifies Mathieu Debonnet, president of TSE.

“The supply of renewable energy is an important driver of our decarbonization plan. Collaborating with TSE will help us meet the ambitious goals we have set for ourselves in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our expertise in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and our international presence give us the responsibility to act as a corporate citizen so that the planet remains a healthy place to live for future generations.” explains Pierre Charbonnier, Executive Director, Global Quality, Manufacturing and Supply Chain, bioMérieux.

*Corporate Power Purchase Agreement: this is an electricity purchase agreement between two parties, namely a producer of (green) electricity and a purchaser of this electricity, such as an electricity consumer or trader. A PPA contains all the terms and conditions of the agreement, such as the quantity of electricity to be supplied, the price negotiated, who bears what risks, the required accounting, and the penalties if the contract is not respected.
